Animals and Plants Cell organelles.

Animals and Plants Cell organelles.

Cell Membrane:

Animal cells are surrounded by a flexible wrapping called a cell membrane.

It gives the cell its shape.

Only certain substances are able to enter and leave the cell.

Cytoplasm:

Cells contain a gel-like liquid called cytoplasm.

It fills the region between the nucleus and the cell membrane.

It is constantly moving through the cell.

Nucleus:

Most cells have a nucleus.

The nucleus is the cell's control center.

The nucleus contains the master plans for all the cell's activities.

Mitochondria:

Mitochondria are oval, membrane-covered organelles that supply energy for the cell.

Each mitochondrion is a tiny power plant.

Vacuoles:

A vacuole is a membrane-covered structure used for storage.

It can store water, food, and wastes.

Cell Wall:

Plant cells have an additional outer covering around the outside of the cell.

This layer is called the cell wall.

It provides the plant cell with strength and extra support.

Chloroplast:

Plants make their own food in structures inside their cells called chloroplasts.

Chloroplasts are green because they contain a chemical called chlorophyll.
