Complete metamorphosis: Some anima l s, including butterflies, moths, flies, and beetles, go through comp l ete metamorphosis. In complete metamorphosis the animal goes through four distinct stages. Larva: A larva is an immature stage that does not resemble th e adult. Pupa: The pupa is a nonfeeding stage during w hich a hard, caselike cocoon surrounds the organism. Incomplete metamorphosis: Some insect species, including grasshoppers, termites, and bedbugs, go through incomplete metamorphosis. During incomplete metamorphosis the animal goes through three stages that occur gradually. Nymph: A nymph is similar to an adult form, but it is smaller and lacks wings and reproductive structures.
