Lesson 1: Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)
Lesson objectives:
1) recognize Prophet’s Mohammad(PBUH) family members
2) identify the reasons of his several marriages
3) identify his first revelation
4) recognize his greatest achievements
Explain:
1) Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) called for the religion of Islam.
2) He was born in Makkah in the year 570 AD.
3) Father: Abdallah who died weeks before he was born.
4) Mother: Aminah bint Wahab died when he was 6.
5) After his mother’s death, he was raised by his grandfather and later by his uncle Abu Talib.
6) All his wives were either widows or divorced except for Aisha; and the reasons are:
a. helping out the widows
b. creating family bonds
c. uniting different clans to spread his messages
d. increasing his credibility by giving his women the opportunity to teach about him and his private life
7) Khadija:
a. rich merchant widow
b. Prophet’s (PBUH) first wife
c. Their Kids: Qasim, Abdallah, Zainab, Ruqayyah, Um Kulthum, and Fatimah
(also Ibrahim is one of prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) sons from his wife Maria al-Qibtiyya)
8) First revelation: at the age of 40 during Ramadan, Allah sent Archangel Jibril to Mohammad (PBUH) and asked him to “Recite”, and the Prophet (PBUH) answered “ I am unable to recite” as the prophet was illiterate, he didn’t know how to read or write. Then the Angel embraced him profoundly and commanded him to read twice again. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) recited the first verses of Surat “Al-Alaq.”
9) Prophet (PBUH) greatest achievements:
a. Islamic State: The Prophet (PBUH) set up systems to form functional mechanism of a Muslim Community.
b. Transmission of the Qur’an: He received the final message from Allah ,the Holy Qur’an.
c. Characteristics: Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was an example of an honest, merciful, truthful and brave human being.
10) Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was a kind person, truthful, merciful, and helpful.
11) His mission was to restore the worship of Allah as taught by all previous prophets.
12) He demonstrated and completed the laws of moral, ethical, legal, and social conduct and all other matters of significance for the humanity.
13) Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) died at the age of 63 in Madinah where millions of his followers still go there to visit his grave.
